Lecanora compallens

A crustose lichen found on exposed trunks and worked timber. The thin pale grey thallus is typically covered with punctiform yellow-green soredia with a whitish marginal zone. Lacks apothecia and pycnidia. A species first identified from the recording area as recently as December 2023, growing on well-lit bark, near the trunk base of a mature Whitebean (Sorbus aria agg.) at Pen-caer-fenny, Crofty. Associates included Flavoparmelia caperataPertusaria pertusa and Punctelia subrudecta. Also recorded on trunks of Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn Redwood) in Gorseinon.

Chemistry: Thallus K-, C-, P-, UV-, with soredia K+ yellowish, C-, P-, UV faintly orange
