Nyl.
Since the recognition of closely related Lecanora hybocarpa, the true status of L. chlarotera s. str. in the recording area requires more study before it is properly understood. L. chlarotera s. str. has been confirmed as occuring in West Glamorgan, but all unchecked historical records of this group are now listed under L. chlarotera s. lat. The species is quite variable and all identifications require microscopical examination. Key characters include thick margins to the apothecia with large, angular crystals and the epithecium covered with small granules, which do not descending into hymenium. In Britain it is reported as common on tree trunks, branches and twigs, growing also on sawn wood.
Similar species include Lecanora hybocarpa, Lecanora pulicaris and Lecanora argentata and associated lichenicolous fungi include Vouauxiella lichenicola, Stigmidium congestum and Unguiculariopsis thallophila.
Listed by Alan Orange in Flora of Glamorgan (Wade et al, 1994).
