(Schaer.) Hue
A crustose lichen of basic rock, walls and concrete substrates, widespread throughout Britain. Is also occasionally recorded on nutrient-enriched acidic rocks and wood. It has a pale greyish to white, warted thallus, typically encircled by a fimbriate white prothallus. The typical form is abundantly fertile with crowded, brown apothecia that become contorted with age.Locally the species has been recorded growing on slag, brickwork, sandstone seawall defences and a concrete 'Lady of the Lake' statue.
Listed by Alan Orange in Flora of Glamorgan (Wade et al, 1994).
