Lecanora barkmaniana

Aptroot & Herk

A southern species in Britain, it was only recently split from the Lecanora subfuscata group, with records nationally indicating its preference for sawn wood and nutrient-enriched trees. It resembles several other species including L. compallens (K- & C-), L. expallens (K+ yellow & C+ yellow/orange) and Pyrrhospora quernea (K- & C+ orange). Pale yellowish-green soredia are borne of punctiform soralia which cover much of the pale grey thallus. There is a paler grey prothallus, apothecia are rare and pycnidia are absent. It was first noted in the recording area in 2024 by BS on Betula pubescens at Crymlyn Bog, but it is likely to be much more widespread.
