Amandinea punctata Tiny Button Lichen

(Hoffm.) Coppins & Scheid.

A common species of nutrient enriched trees, sawn wood, sandstone and brick. It is highly fertile, the texture of the grey-green thallus varying from  smooth to cracked. The black apothecia are small, up to 0.5mm across, with thin margins that become occluded at maturity. Produces 1-septate spores. Confusion is possible with Lecidella elaeochroma (C+ orange) and Catillaria nigroclavata (smaller, neater apothecia).
