Lactarius glyciosmus Coconut Milkcap

Cap Llaeth Coconyt

(Fr.) Fr.

Lactarius glyciosmus is a grey-pink or buffish pink coloured Milkcap that grows with Birch. It has a fairly strong coconut smell. It is one of the most common Milkcaps in West Glamorgan and can often be found early in the season wherever Birch is found. It usually exudes copious amounts of milk from its gills. The only other Milkcap that has a similar coconut smell is Lactarius mammosus (Pap Milkcap) which is much less common and grows with conifers.
