L.
The fruiting bodies of Wood Hedgehog (Hydnum repandum) are very distinctive. Instead of gills, the underside of the cap has closly packed spines. It is most common in broadleaved woodland, particularly with Beech (Fagus sylvatica), but it also crops up in conifer forests including those of Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla). It might be confused with Terracotta Hedgehog (Hydnum rufescens), but that species has a reddish-orange cap and is much less common in West Galmorgan.
