Cortinarius decipientoides

Moenne-Locc. & Reumaux

Similar to Cortinarius decipiens, as the name suggests, with a grey-brown or reddish-brown cap which fades to a paler ochraceous brown and a white, silky-fibrillose stem. The cap has a prominent umbo and a white rim of veil remnants which is conspicuous in young fruiting bodies. Spores are larger (9-13 microns) than those of Cortinarius decipiens and unlike that species it is often found in conifer forests, e.g. under Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis), sometimes in large numbers in mossy carpets.
