Bryostroma trichostomi

(Rolland) Döbbeler

Bryostroma trichostomi is a bryophilous fungus that produces black perithecia in the leaf axils of several species within the pottiaceae. It was first recorded in 2024 by BS on a slag bund on edge of at Margam landfill site, growing abundantly in leaf axils of Didymodon vinealis. Like many species in this little studied group, it is likely to be more widespread and other recorded host species elsewhere in the UK include Didymodon fallax, Trichostomum brachydontium, T. crispulum and Weissia sp.
