A common species with a bright  orange-brown or brick-coloured cap, often darker in the centre, and comparatively short striations on the margins. There is no ring on the stem but there is a prominant sack-like volva at the base. It is a widespread species found in broadleaved and coniferous woodland. It is recorded frequently in West Glamorgan.
