Often quite large with a cap up to 15cm in diameter when mature and tends to go yellowish with age. It has a pleasant smell of aniseed. The stalk is swollen or slightly bulbous at the base but not with a distinct margin. Similsr to Agaricus macrocarpus which is bigger and has a dustinct marginate bulb. Fairly common in grassland, parks and occasionall in open woodland, but it may be deceasing in some areas. There are scattered records in lowland West Glamorgan, particularly from coastal grasslands in south Gower.
