(Nees & Hornsch.) M.O.Hill
Similar to Weissia brachycarpa var. brachycarpa but the margins of the leaves are inrolled in the upper part and linear lanceolate from a slightly wider, oblong basal portion. It has a preference for calcareous soils and its British distribution reflects this. It is virtually confined to calcareous soils on the south Gower limestone in West Glamorgan. Most records of Weissia brachycarpa that do not specify a variety are probably referrable to var. obliqua. Sporophyte capsules are frequent.
