Thamnobryum alopecurum Fox-tail Feather-moss

(Hedw.) Gangulee

A dark-green, dioicous, pleurocarpous moss which grows in shaded habitats, particularly on banks in woodlands, wet rock faces and boulders along streams and rivers. It usually has a robust dendroid (tree-like) habit and where it occurs it often forms, large dense colonies. It is widespread throughout most of Britain and is very common in Wales. In West Glamorgan it is a characteristic species of the Gower Ash woodlands and the main river valleys of Neath Port Talbot. Sporophyte capsules are rare.
