(Hedw.) Bruch & Schimp.
An autoicous, acrocarpous moss which grows on decaying animal remains, bones and dung, particularly fox scat. It is often found on rocks or among moss in scree near paths where animal latrines are situated. Colonies have tightly packed shoots which have more or less entire leaves and usually with abundant capsules. It is a Boreo-arctic montane species with a western and northern distribution in Britain. It is relatively scarce in Wales and it is always an exciting find. It is only known from Craig y Llyn in West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are common in spring and summer.
