A dioicous, acrocarpous moss which is common on old walls andin ruderal habitats. It is larger than Streblotrichum convolutum var. convolutum and has wavy leaves. The more luxuriant forms of it might be mistaken for other species. It is widespread in Britain, including Wales and it is probably under recorded. It is found commonly throughout the lowlands of West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are uncommon.
This species was formely known as Barbula sardoa and Barbula convoluta var. commutata.
