Sphagnum flexuosum Flexuous Bog-moss

Dozy & Molk.

A dioicous bog-moss which grows in mineral-rich, boggy places such a spoor fen, rush pasture and in woodlands such as willow carr. It is similar to the much more common Sphagnum fallax, but its outer capitulum brabches are very long and pale in colour and it doesn't show the mustard-brown colours often exhibited by that species. The triangular stem leaves, longer than broad, with a blunt, fringed tip, are also a useful indentification feature. It has a scattered distribution in Wales and northern Britain and there are few records of it from West Glamorgan. It is probably under recorded. Sporophyte capsules have not been obseved in Britain.
