Sphagnum angustifolium Fine Bog-moss

(C.E.O.Jensen ex Russow) C.E.O.Jensen

A green or mustard-brown, dioicous bog-moss which grows in flushed, usually minerally-enriched areas in marshes, at the sides of streams, on banks and in woodland. Like Sphagnum fallax it belongs to the Sphagnum recurvum complex but it can usually be distinguished from the others by its long, thin, almost white pendant branches and the convex, pom-pom like capitula. It has a western distribution in Britain where it appears to be scattered and rather scarce overall, although it is almost certainly under recorded. Sporophyte capsules are very rare.
