Seligeria acutifolia Sharp Rock-bristle

Lindb.

A tiny, autoicous acrocarpous moss which grown on shaded calcareous rocks, such as limestone, preferring crevices and overhangs which are moist but not dripping wet. It is very similar to Seligeria pusilla and easily confused with it. However the sporophytes have a shorter stalk and the basal leaves usually reach the base of the capsule. It is a scarce species in Britain but it may have been overlooked and misidentified in the past. There has been an increase in records from south Wales in recent years, including one in West Glamorgan from the Bishopston Valley where it was found by Sam Bosanquet in 2010. Sporophyte capsules are occasional in summer.
