(Hedw.) Bruch & Schimp.
An autoicous acrocarpous moss which grows on rocks and boulders near streams, rivers and other water bodies, but not in the inundation zone occupied by Schistidium rivulare. In wetter parts of the country it is often found on boulders away from water courses. Leaves are usually prominently curved in one direction and typical forms have a distinctive appearance. It is scattered throughout western and northern Britain and it is widespread in southern Wales but less common in the northern half of the country. It is found throughout West Glamorgan, where it is not confined to river valleys like Schistidium rivulare, but it is less common than Schistidium crassipilum. Sporophyte capsules are common from winter to spring.
