Riccia glauca Glaucous Crystalwort

L.

An ephemeral, monoicous thallose liverwort which grows on disturbed soil such as in stubble fields and on compacted soils along paths, sometimes under trees and in woodlands. It can be confused with Riccia sorocarpa but the lobes have less distinct, shallower gooves. It is widely distributed in Britain, but scarce in Scotland and rare in much of Wales except for the south and southwest. In West Glamorgan it is most commonly found in arable fields in Gower with scattered, local occurences elsewhere. Sometimes large populations appear on muddy ground in areas that become flooded occasionally. Sporophytes are common throughout the year.
