(L.) Gray
An autoicous (sometimes paroicous or synoicous) thallose liverwort of boggy places, base-rich flushes, wet rocks in gullies, damp tracks and dune slacks. It has a narrower more neatly branched thallus than Riccardia chamedryfolia but it is wise to check under the microscope for the distribution of oil bodies to confirm identification. Unlike Riccardia chamedrifolia, oil bodies are absent from epidermal and marginal cells. It has a widespread western and northern distribution in Britain, is common throughout Wales and it is distrubuted widely in West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are frequent in spring and summer.
