Rhynchostegium riparioides Long-beaked Water Feather-moss

(Hedw.) Cardot

An aquatic or sub-aquatic, autoicous leafy liverwort which grows on rocks or tree roots in nutrient enriched streams and rivers. In actively flowing water it can grow to form long, largely unbranched shoots, particularly on vertical slabs and boulders, often with the older parts rather bare of leaves giving it an untidy appearance. The egg-shaped leaves are relatively large, finely toothed with a nerve that runs for most of their length. It is a very common species  in Britain, ubiquitous in Wales and found throughout West Glamorgan in both the lowlands and uplands.
