(Dicks.) Limpr.
An autoicous pleurocarpous moss which grows on base-rich shelterd rocks, walls and bridges, often on weathered mortar and invariably where there is some shade. Colonies have very slender prostrate shoots which grow closely appressed to the substrate with very narrow, pointed leaves that grow upright from the shoots. It is a common moss in southern Britain and it is found throughout much of Wales. It is widespread and common in West Glamorgan where it occurs on shaded limestone rock outcrops along the Gower coast and elsewhere, commonly, on sheltered walls and bridges. Sporophyte capsules are frequent in winter.
