(P. Beauv.) Vanderpoorten & Hedenäs
A rare, autoicous pleurocarpous moss which grows on dead vegetation in very wet or waterlogged places in marshes and by pools. It is similar to Hygroamblystegium humile but the leaf base continues as a narrow band of tissue down the stem (see photo). Most of its British populations are in south and southwest Wales and several of them are in West Glamorgan, e.g. Oxwich Marsh, Crymlyn Fen and Pant-y-saes Fen. Sporophyte capsules are frequent in summer.
