Plagiomnium ellipticum Marsh Thyme-moss

(Brid.) T.J.Kop.

A dioicous, acrocapous moss which grows in wetlands such as flushed ground, wet woodland and sites with mineral-rich seepages. It is similar to other thyme-mosses and grows in similar habitats, easily confused with Plagiomnium elatum, but the leaf bases hardly run down the stem. It also has a very similar, predominantly western distribution in Britain and it is occasional in Wales. In West Glamorgan it is found in Oxwich Marsh, Crymlyn Fen, Pant y Saes Fen, Margam Moors and Gors Llwyn. Sporophyte capsules are very rare.
