Plagiochila bifaria Killarney Featherwort

(Sw.) Lindenb.

A hyperoceanic, dioicous leafy liverwort which grows on acidic rocks or tree trunks in humid woodlands. It is similar to Plagiochila spinulosa, which is larger, but the leaves are are held almost perpendicular to the stem (see photo). It is only found in the milder, humid parts of Britain where it exhibits a marked western distribution. It is very rare in West Glamorgan with occurrences on the west coast of Gower and in the Atlantic woodlands of the upper Neath Valley. Sporophyte capsules are unknown.

This species has also been known as Plagiochila killarniensis.
