Marchantia polymorpha subsp. ruderalis

Bischl. & Boisselier

This is the most common subspecies of Marchantia polymorpha in Britain and West Glamorgan. Unlike Marchantia polymorpha subsp. polymorpha, it is rarely found in natural habitats but prefers urban environments such as gardens where it a common weed in flower pots, but also occurs frequently on pavements, roadsides, walls, bonfire sites, open mosaic habits and other ruderal habitats. Male and female plants appear to be equally common and usually bear abundant receptacles. (See account of Marchantia polymorpha subsp. polymorpha for more information).
