Leptodontium flexifolium Bent-leaved Beard-moss

(Dicks.) Hampe

An Oceanic, dioicous, acrocarpous moss of well-drained, acid, peaty ground in heathland and woodland and also on rock and decaying wood. It is a small, yellow-green moss, somewhat like a Barbula species but the leaves have coarse teeth near their oval, rounded tip. It is rather scarce overall in Britain with a scattered western distribution. It is rare in West Glamorgan where it was recorded by Roy Perry on the peaty tow path along the Tennant Canal near Jersey Marine in 2004. Sporophyte capsules are occasional.
