(Schmid. ex Hoffm.) Buch
A small, brownish-green, paroicous leafy liverwort which forms patches on bare, acidic soils, metal cominated soils and mine spoils. The occurrence of orange-bown gemmae clusters on the surfaces of the leaves, which can be seen with a hand lens, is a useful field character. It has a scattered distribution Britain but is most frequent in the west and north. It is widespread in south Wales and occasional in West Glamorgan. Perianths and sporophyte capsules are frequent throughout the year and gemmae are usually abundant.
