A.J.E. Sm.
A Suboceanic, dioicous, pleurocarpous moss which grows on acidic bark and rock. It is a very common epiphyte on broadleaved trees, particularly Sessile-oak (Quercus petraea), but also on conifers in humid plantations. The dull-green or yellow-green shoots have leaves that are strongly curved and bear sporophyte capsules with a short point on the lid in autumn and winter. It is widespread and common in the west and much of the north of Brirain and it is found throughout Wales. It is common in West Glamorgan and is often abundant as an epiphyte in humid oak woodlands and on larch and other conifers in plantations, where plants often form luxuriant festoons on the branches of trees. Sporophyte capsules are common.
