(Hedw.) Brid.
A distinctive, autoicous leafy liverwort with long, shiny flattened shoots, somewhat resembling a large leafy liverwort. It grows on vertical substrates, most commonly on the trunks of trees near water courses. It is widspread throughout most of Britain except the far north and it is relatively common along rivers in much of Wales. It is locally common in West Glamorgan where it is found as a trunk epiphyte along the main river systems, particularly in the Vale of Neath. Sporophyte capsules are frequent in winter.
