Entodon concinnus Montagne's Cylinder-moss

(De Not.) Paris

A dioicous, Boreal-montane, pleurocarpous moss which occurs as scattered shoots or small, loose turfs in base-rich, semi-improved grassland and in calcareous scree. It has a curious distribution in Britain being rather local and most common on the chalk of southern England but also scattered on suitable substrates in the north. It is very rare in Wales and it has just one site on the limestone of south Gower in West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are unknown in Britain.
