Diplophyllum albicans White Earwort

(L.) Dumort.

A common, diooicous leafy liverwort occuring in many different types of habitats with acidic substrata such as heathland, woodland, streamsides and mountain habitats. It is often abundant in oak woodland and conifer woodlands and probably the most common leafy liverwort on shaded roadside banks along forest roads. It is found throughout Britain except for the southeast of England and it is very commmon and widespread in Wales. It is a ubiquitous member of the calcifuge bryophyte fora in the South Wales Coalfield in West Glamorgan, but is only locally frequent in Gower. Sporophyte capsules are common.
