Didymodon tophaceus Olive Beard-moss

(Brid.) Lisa

A variable olive-brown or brownish-green, dioicous, acrocarpus moss which forms tufts or mats in wet, base-rich habitats sich as tufa, wet banks, seepages and calcareous rocks in or by streams, often soaked with running or dripping water. The narrow, tongue-shaped leaves have almost parallel sides and rounded tips. It is widely distributed in most of Britain except the north of Scotland and is occasional in West Glamorgan, most commonly recorded in Gower and scattered in suitable habitats elsewhere. Sporophyte capsules are frequent in winter and spring.
