(Brid.) E.Britton
A cushion-forming, dioicous acrocarpus moss which grows on rocks and boulders, logs and peaty banks in woodland. It is predominantly a moss of the uplands in western Britain, almost exclusively, where it is locally frequent. Large mounds can be found on boulders in Atlantic woodlands, often sprinkled with deciduous leaves and with stems matted with red rhizoids. It is fairly local in south Wales and uncommon in West Glamorgan where it has been recorded in the Clydach valley north of Pontardawe and in upper Vale of Neath. Sporophyte capsules are uncommon.
