Dialytrichia mucronata Pointed Lattice-moss

(Brid.) Broth.

A Mediterranean-Atlantic, acrocarpous moss which occurs on rocks and banks near flowing water and at the bases of trees in places liable to flooding. It also occurs in drier habitats and seems to be recorded increasingly on roads and other hard surfaces, including tarmac. The broadly tongue-shapes leaves have a thickened, recurved border and a conspicuous nerve which is extended into a mucronate tip. It has a marked southern distribution in Britain, including south Wales. It is occasional in West Glamorgan and spreading steadily in urban habitats, particularly on tarmac. Sporophyte capsules are rarely seen on this dioicous moss.
