Cololejeunea microscopica Long-leaved Pouncewort

(Tayl.) Schiffn.

A tiny, pale green, epiphytic, hyperoceanic liverwort with bluntly pointed oval leaves (longer than those of Microlejeunea ulicina) which lie appressed to the bark of trees. It demands a very hunid environment such as that found in the vicinity of waterfalls in temperate rainforests. It is only found in the Atlantic areas of the north and west of Britain and may be expanding its range in Wales in reponse to climate change. A cluster of colonies was found recently by Sam Bosanquet on a riverside Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatinus) near Scwd Gwladys in the Pyrddin Valley on the border between West Glamorgan and Breconshire (Powys).
