(Nees) Schiffn.
A widespread Threadwort in western Britain, particularly Wales and Cornwall, largely absent from much of middle and eastern England and scattered and occasional elsewhere. It is a species of peaty heathland, always in acidic habitats, and probably the most commmon Cephaloziella of wetland habitats like Sphagnum bogs, often growing on Sphagnum. But is also found in drier habitats such as dunes, woodland tracks, on coastal soil covered rocks and scree and on mine waste. It is usualy fertile and often has sporophytes. This is important because careful examination of fertile plants with perianths is necessary for accurate identification. It is scattered throughout West Glamorgan and probably under recorded.
