Campylopus fragilis Brittle Swan-neck Moss

(Brid.) Bruch, Schimp. & W.Guembel

A dioicous, acrocarpous, yellowish-green moss of heathy slopes that are well-drained. It also occurs on crags and ledges in the uplands and in other habitats such as fen carr. It is much less of a calcifuge than otherĀ Camylopus species and is sometimes found in limestone grassland. It has a widespread western and northern distribution in Britain, but there are few records of it in West Glamorgan where it may be overlooked for other Campylopus species. Interestingly, male plants can sometimes be tiny and gemmiferous. Sporophyte capsules are occasional.
