Campylopus atrovirens Bristly Swan-neck Moss

De Not.

A striking, dark coloured (almost black) acrocarpous moss of moorland and acidic rocks in the uplands. It often grows on vertical or sloping rock faces that are dripping with water, or on rocks receiving spray from nearby waterfalls. It has a strong western distribution in Britain and is almost completely absent from the east. It is locally frequent in Wales and it has a patchy distribution in West Glamorgan, where it is relatively uncommon. It is dioicous species and sporophyte capsules are unknown in Britain and Ireland.
