(Roehl.) Blandow ex Brid.
A very rare, autoicous, arctic-montane Bryum found in coastal dunes where there is damp calcareous sand such as dune slacks. There are less than 20 sites for it in Britain and Ireland and a few of those are in Wales. It produces abundant sporophyte capsules that are broadly pear-shaped and which mature in autumn. This is fortunate because examination of capsules is necessary in order to make an umambiguous identification. It is only known from Whiteford dunes in West Glamorgan.
