Bryum algovicum Drooping Thread-moss

Sendtn. ex Mull. Hal.

A common Bryum in coastal sand dunes where it can occur in very large populations. In Britain it is represented by Bryum algovicum var. rutheanum. It can be confused with a number of other species in the Bryum caespiticium group, although many of those are rare. Accurate identification requires microscopic examination of the capsule. It is locally common along the coast in West Glamorgan and particularly in sand dunes and open mosaic habitats. Abundant capsules are produced in spring and summer.
