Bryoerythrophyllum recurvirostrum Red Beard-moss

(Hedw.) P.C.Chen

A very common acrocarpous moss throughout Britain. It likes base-rich substrates, particularly rock or stone, but is also found occasionally on soil. It is a frequent member of the moss floa that occurs on old walls where there is calcareous mortar. It is common in the lowland areas of West Glamorgan, but away from the calcareous geology of coastal south Gower it is more restricted to structures like walls, concrete and imported limestone boulders in the South Wales Coalfield.
