Brachytheciastrum velutinum Velvet Feather-moss

(Hedw.) Ignatov & Huttunen

A widespread, autoicous, pleurocarpous moss in Britain which grows as an epiphyte on trees, on rocks and boulders and on compacted soil. It is usually regarded as less common in the west of Britain. Nevertheless there are scattered records of it throughout West Glamorgan where it can be conspicous when it produces masses of sporophyte capsules on rocks and walls.
