Bartramia pomiformis Common Apple-moss

Hedw.

An autoicous (or synoicous), cushion-forming, acrocarpus moss, usually found growing on sandsone, or other mildly acidic to slightly base-rich rocks, in ravines, on cliffs and in rocky woodland. It is most common in the west and north of Britain. There have been surprisingly few records of this attractive moss in West Glamorgan although it is quite distinctive when it is bearing its spherical capsules which are usually abundant in summer.
