(Hedw.) Schwaegr.
A dioicous, acrocarpous moss usually found growing on rotting tree stumps, fence posts and decaying logs. It is not common in the west of Britain and it is relatively scarce in Wales overall. It is uncommon in West Glamorgan with just a few records. Capsules are very rare in Britain and have never been observed in Glamorgan, but spherical clusters of gemmae are produced at the tops of otherwise bare stems, giving this moss an unmistakable appearance.
