Atrichum crispum Fountain Smoothcap

(James) Sull. & Lesq.

Only known in Britain since 1848 when it was first found in Rochdale, Lancashire. It was known from Wales about 50 years later and has spread slowly into moist habitats on acid soils throughout the country and is occasionally  found along rocky streams. It is still relatively uncommon in West Glamorgan where it occurs near upland streams, but it may be under recorded.
