Amphidium mougeotii Mougeot's Yoke-moss

(Bruch & Schimp.) Schimp.

A dioicous acrocarpous moss which forms distictive cushions on irrigated siliceous rocks. It is a montane species which is widespread in the west and north of Britain and is locally common on the upland, Pennant Sandstone of the South Wales Coalfield in West Glamorgan where it can form large mounds on wet, vertical rock faces. It is absent from Gower. Sporophyte capsules are very rare on this dioicous moss.
